Stopped by Nathan Phillips Square downtown
I’ve seen Chris Brown (multiple times) and Usher (once during his Vegas residency), but I NEEDED to see them together. When they announced this tour, I KNEW it was going to be epic and I couldn’t risk having FOMO. I mean, it was baaad. I was in the queue, looking for tickets, AND making plans for either the New York, Toronto, or Nashville show while I was at work. I was very thankful my students were working independently on a project that week because baaabyyy…My initial plans did not work out and I did not buy a ticket at that time. I went back the next day to see what was still available. I have been to all three locations for previous trips, but I needed to think hard about which one would be a better vibe. I planned to go solo, but when I talked to my sister about it, she said, “Here’s my card, get me a ticket, too.” This was in April…
Fast forward to August: reserved hotel and bought flight at the last minute. LOL. How did that happen, Sway? I know, I know. Rookie moves. Let’s just say that life had been life-ing and I just had a lot going on and I was handling it the best way I could. Despite the last-minute arrangements, we made it to the August 11th show in Toronto, Canada. Yep, riding through the six with my woes. We had a chance to see the city and did two of the four things planned for the visit—see the Toronto sign and eat at Chubby’s, a Jamaican restaurant. After all, we were there for a short time, not a long time. WE MADE IT OUT OF THE GROUP CHAT (cue the applause)!
Because we did not buy our tickets together, we did not sit together. We were in the same section and just one row apart. The distance didn’t stop us from having the time of our lives, enjoying a great performance, and having fun with strangers. Yep, strangers. Mama, I promise I’m safe! My unofficial concert buddy, Rodger, was THEEEEE best. He def understood the assignment. And the concert girlies that took us in like we were part of their crew were also TOP TIER! We had a ballllll (Anthony Hamilton voice). Trying to get an Uber after a show is the devil’s playground, but we made it back to the hotel safely. Checkout was in a few hours, so cold leftover Jamaican food it was, followed by a hot shower. We Ubered to the airport, caught our flight, and quietly allowed reality to set in.
48 hours. Two itinerary stops. One amazing concert. Toronto, you were definitely worth the booking!
Until the next destination, the next story, and the next booking…
AC Booked It
